Quantum amplification of boson-mediated interactions

Strong and precisely-controlled interactions between quantum objects are essential for information processing, simulation, sensing, the formation of exotic matter. A well-established paradigm coupling otherwise weakly-interacting is to use auxiliary bosonic excitations mediate interactions. Important examples include photon-mediated atoms, superconducting qubits, color centers in diamond, phonon-mediated trapped ions optical microwave photons. Boson-mediated can principle be amplified through parametric driving boson channel; drive need not couple directly interacting objects. This technique has been proposed a variety platforms, but date realized laboratory. Here we experimentally demonstrate amplification boson-mediated interaction two trapped-ion qubits by modulation trapping potential. The provides up 3.25-fold increase strength, validated measuring speedup two-qubit entangling gates. used any platform where channel possible, enabling exploration new parameter regimes enhanced processing.
